Ink & Inference began with a frustration I know personally: I was spending more time trying to decide what to read next than actually reading.
I’ve often found myself relying on ratings, reviews and recommendations, only to discover that a book widely loved by others wasn’t necessarily a book I enjoyed.
That made me wonder: what if finding a book could begin with the reader, rather than with what everyone else has already decided is good?

A high rating doesn’t necessarily mean a book belongs in your universe.
Maybe we’re not short of books. Maybe we’re short of better ways to find the one we actually want to read.
The problem goes beyond choosing your next book.
Readers have more books, recommendations and reviews available to them than ever before. Yet finding a book that actually feels right can still be surprisingly difficult.
At Ink & Inference, we’re interested in what happens when book discovery starts with the reader’s experience, rather than simply with popularity, ratings or genre.
Ink & Inference is exploring a different way to think about book discovery — one that starts with the reader, not simply with what’s popular, highly rated, or easy to recommend.
We’re interested in the connections between books, readers, themes, reading experiences and the reasons a book works for one person but not another.
Books are personal. Finding them should be too.
